Promoting STEAM among schoolgirls: the start of a new Erasmus+ project EITIC-EU

04/30/2025 Carla Martinez

EITIC-EU is an Erasmus+ project, designed to inspire and empower girls and young women aged 10-16 to pursue STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) careers. The aim is to bridge the digital gender gap and establish that women also belong in STEAM careers. Through the visibility of female role models, success stories of women entrepreneurs and innovators, and the promotion of entrepreneurial culture with a technological approach, EITIC-EU seeks to break gender prejudices and stereotypes. The aim of EITIC-EU is to raise awareness of the importance of promoting STEAM professions among girls and women.

This project started in December 2024 and will run for two years, until November 2026. Throughout these two months the project will raise awareness and educate primary and secondary school children between 10-16 years old, especially girls, on the importance of technology and STEAM subjects. This will be done by developing and sharing open educational resources that showcase inspiring and innovative experiences led by female ICT users as central to their success. We will also develop tools for teachers, these will present ways for them to motivate girls to pursue STEAM careers.

EITIC-EU is made up of six partners from Spain, Greece, Romania and Brussels. Led by Fundación Cibervoluntarios, the consortium is created by schools and experts in education, digitalisation and the promotion of STEAM amongst girls. The partnership met in Madrid on the 29th and 30th of January to discuss how they would best be able to bridge the gender gap in STEAM.

EITIC-EU will collaborate with teachers in creating educational resources for faculty. We will also research the best ways to reach out to girls and young people to promote gender equality in schools.
